Services and Routes

Metro is the North East's very own light rail system. With 60 stations located around the heart of Tyne and Wear, there's usually one close by and because they're so frequent, you can just hop on and off with no hassle.

Tyne & Wear Metro services include:

  • Meet the manager
    • Regular events taking place across the Metro system. This is your opportunity to speak to senior managers and Metro staff about anything Metro related. Find out when the next Meet the Manager event is taking place here.
  • Ask Metro
    • Regular topical question and answer sessions take place on our Metro Facebook and Twitter pages. This is your opportunity to speak to senior managers from Metro and Nexus.
  • Adopt a station
    • Our 'Adopt a station' scheme aims to help improve our links with local communities and customers living near to our stations. This voluntary scheme aims to encourage community groups, schools and individuals to help with the upkeep and maintenance of our stations.
  • Art on Metro
    • Working with local community groups, our aim is to support innovation and make our stations more welcoming to passengers. Art can take the form of many ideals such as performance, music, photography, literature, visual arts, poetry... the list goes on.
  • Community noticeboards
    • These are located at most stations. They can be used by charitable and voluntary organisations, or those who are not-for-profit but essentially benefit the local community. The A6 notices are displayed free of charge and are replaced every month.
