The name Sheffield is derived from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. A third of the city lies within the Peak District National Park so Sheffield really is a city with a view on its doorstep.

2013 sees Sheffield celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of stainless steel by Harry Brearley. There are events scheduled throughout the year, so do get involved if you are planning a visit.

The city of Sheffield is known for its past industrial connections. Today it offers award-winning galleries, museums, nationally renowned theatres and shopping to keep the whole family happy.

With over 60% of the city covered in green space, Sheffield really does put the countryside into the city.
